Mark Pessa, MD, FACS

General Surgery

Mark Pessa, MD, is Board-certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He is an attending physician for the Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center's Department of Surgery. His special focuses include laparoscopic surgery, breast surgery, and gastrointestinal surgery.

Dr. Pessa earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. He then completed his Medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX.

He completed his post-graduate medical training at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, FL. There he completed an Internship in Surgery and a Residency in Surgery. He served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Pessa served as a Major in the Medical Corps of the US Air Force Reserve. He was a Flight Surgeon, and also served as Military Indoctrination for Medical Service Officer. He served as a consultant for the US Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine.

Dr. Pessa is certified in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). He has served as an ATLS instructor.

Dr. Pessa spent four years as an attending Emergency Medicine physician at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. He then moved to Lubbock, TX., where he served as an attending surgeon for the University Medical Center and St. Mary of Plains Hospital. He also was a Staff Surgeon, and later Flight Surgeon, at the US Air Force Hospital at Reese Air Force Base. After he completed his military service, he served as a surgeon with several general surgical groups in the Lubbock area.
