Inpatient Psychiatric Services
A hospitalist is a provider who specializes in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists work closely with your primary care provider and frequently inform him or her of your condition.
When you require hospitalization, your provider or an Emergency Department physician will coordinate your admission with a hospitalist. The hospitalists are on site 24 hours a day and work closely with all hospital staff to coordinate your care.
Michelle Marie Pearce, MD is part of our Health First hospitalist team serving as a Psychiatric Hospitalist. She is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Pearce earned her Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. She then earned her Medical Degree from the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo. She completed a residency with the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Ohio.
Dr. Pearce has extensive psychiatric experience, providing care in mental health institutions, hospital settings and educational facilities. Before joining Health First Medical Group, she served as a Florida Assertive Community Treatment Psychiatrist for the Renaissance Behavioral Health - Mental Health Resource Center in Jacksonville, FL. Additionally, she served as a Consulting Psychiatrist for Huntingdon Health Care in Ft. Myers, FL, a provider of psychiatric care for patients in nursing facilities; a Psychiatrist for Strategic Interventions, Inc., a mental health clinic in Nebo, NC; and a Psychiatrist for the Mental Health Association in North Carolina.
Her hospital experience includes Chair of the Department of Psychiatry for the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC; Administrative Consultant for Brynn Marr Behavioral Health Care in Jacksonville, NC and Consultation Liaison Psychiatrist for Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
She has also worked at the Medical College of Ohio/Department of Psychiatry as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Director for Outpatient Services and while at the University of Toledo, she served as the Staff Psychiatrist for the Student Medical Center.
Dr. Pearce has received numerous awards and commendations, including the John Kempt Behavioral Science Award, the Henry H. Hartman Writing Competition in Clinical Psychiatry, the Second Annual Pfizer Psychiatry Resident of the Year Award, and the R. Vance Fitzgerald Scholarship Award. She was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She has significant research, teaching and presentation experience on a variety of psychiatric topics.
