Peter Pappas, MD

General Surgery

Peter A. Pappas, MD, joined Health First in 2008, where he is a Board-certified attending physician in General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care for the Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center's Department of Surgery. He also serves as Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Central Florida, College of Medicine. Prior to joining Health First Medical Group, Dr. Pappas was an attending surgeon for the Department of Surgical Education at Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) in Orlando.

Dr. Pappas earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with Summa cum Laude honors in Chemistry from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fl. He completed Medical School at the University of Miami School of Medicine with Research Distinction. He completed a residency in General Surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Pappas then completed a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and a Trauma Surgery Fellowship, both at ORMC.

Dr. Pappas is Board certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He also holds certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Fundamental Critical Care Support, Basic Cardiac Life Support, and Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness. He has served as a physician educator at University of Florida Gainesville, Orlando Regional Medical Center, University of Florida, Jacksonville, as well as the Health First system.

Dr. Pappas has published numerous research papers and conducted presentations on a wide range of topics including mucosal vascular alterations, serum citrulline and acute rejection, abdominal compartment syndrome, and hyperglycemia in critically ill trauma patients.

Dr. Pappas is the Department of Surgery representative to the Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center's Surgical Care Improvement Program Committee. He also serves on the Health First Holmes Regional Emergency Management Committee, and is the liaison for the Trauma Center's Organ Donation program.
