Nancy Hernandez, MD

Hospitalist

A hospitalist is a provider who specializes in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists work closely with your primary care provider and frequently inform him or her of your condition.

When you require hospitalization, your provider or an Emergency Department physician will coordinate your admission with a hospitalist. The hospitalists are on site 24 hours a day and work closely with all hospital staff to coordinate your care.

Nancy Hernandez, M.D. is part of our Health First hospitalist team. She is board certified in internal medicine.

Dr. Hernandez earned her earned her Bachelors of Science in Radiological Sciences from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. She earned her Medical Degree from Universidad El Bosque, Escuela Colombiana de Medicina in Bogota, Columbia, South America. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Thomason Hospital, a hospital part of the Texas Tech University Health Center in El Paso, TX.

Dr. Hernandez works with Health First Medical Group as a Hospitalist with a special role in hospital diabetes management. She has done extensive research and training on the topic of diabetes and provides community lectures to help with awareness, prevention and care management of the disease. She also completed a diabetes fellowship for primary care providers and a faculty development fellowship through the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University/Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Hernandez also worked with the University of Colorado Health Science Center in Denver, CO as in-patient consult service and outpatient clinic rotation within Endocrinology. She also served as a practice assistant at Merritt Island family practice office and as a radiologic technologist at an orthopedic center in Merritt Island.

Dr. Hernandez is fluent in English and Spanish. She spends her time and medical talent volunteering on a mission trips to Juarez, Mexico with the Texas Tech University Christian Medical and Dental Association. She also worked with the diabetic indigent population at the Bernstein Community Center in Greenville, NC.

She is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Southern Medical Association and the Society of Hospital Medicine.
