Hospitalist

A hospitalist is a provider who specializes in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists work closely with your primary care provider and frequently inform him or her of your condition.

When you require hospitalization, your provider or an Emergency Department physician will coordinate your admission with a hospitalist. The hospitalists are on site 24 hours a day and work closely with all hospital staff to coordinate your care.

Dr. Beth Burns is part of our Health First hospitalist team. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine with Honors from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL and her Bachelor of Science from Baylor University in Waco, TX. Her residency in Internal Medicine was completed with Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, FL., where she was awarded as "Medicine Intern of the Year."

Before joining Health First, Dr. Burns’ served as a physician with Florida Physicians Medical Group, Avalon Park Internal Medicine in Orlando, FL. She has also worked for Florida Hospital East Orlando and Excel Hospitalists, also in Orlando. She has served as team leader chairman for the Primary Care/Internal Medicine and Spinal Cord Clinic in addition to serving on the Major Prosthetics/Electric Mobility Committee and the Code Blue Team for VAMC Orlando/Tampa Division where she earned the title of "Employee of the Year." Dr. Burns also operated Gulf Coast Internal Medicine, PLLC in Biloxi, a private practice in Internal Medicine from 1998-2002.

Dr. Burns holds special interests in diabetes, hypertension, headache disorders, spinal cord injury, wound care and skin care.
