Hospitalist

A hospitalist is a provider who specializes in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists work closely with your primary care provider and frequently inform him or her of your condition.

When you require hospitalization, your provider or an Emergency Department physician will coordinate your admission with a hospitalist. The hospitalists are on site 24 hours a day and work closely with all hospital staff to coordinate your care.

Saira Hashmi-Alikhan, MD, is part of our Health First hospitalist team. She joined our team in 2008 and is a board-certified Internal Medicine Hospitalist.

A native of Statesboro, GA, Dr. Hashmi-Alikhan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with highest honors from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She completed her Medical Degree at Emory University School of Medicine. She then conducted her residency in Internal Medicine from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi Honor Society.

Dr. Hashmi-Alikhan serves on several committees at Health First’s Cape Canaveral Hospital, including the Medical Practices Committee, the Critical Care Committee, the Cancer Committee and the Ethics Committee. She previously served on the Medical Quality Assurance Committee and the Emergency Room/Admission Subcommittee at St. Lucie Medical Center in St. Lucie, FL.

Dr. Hashmi-Alikhan lives in Merritt Island.
