Paula Abrahao, MD

Hospitalist

A hospitalist is a provider who specializes in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists work closely with your primary care provider and frequently inform him or her of your condition.

When you require hospitalization, your provider or an Emergency Department physician will coordinate your admission with a hospitalist. The hospitalists are on site 24 hours a day and work closely with all hospital staff to coordinate your care.

Paula Abrahao, MD is part of our Health First hospitalist team. Her professional interests include chronic medicine, diabetes, hypertension and preventive medicine.

Dr. Abrahao was born and raised in Brazil and knew at a very young age that she wanted to be a physician. She states visiting her pediatrician as a child is what sparked her interests in the medical field and the desire to help people. She also had a desire to travel and explore new cultures and decided to attend medical school at the University of Monterrey in Mexico. Upon completion of her internship in Mexico, she knew she wanted to practice in the United States and be closer to family who relocated to Florida during her time in medical school. She completed her residency in pediatrics and internal medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas.

After her residency, Dr. Abrahao moved to Florida to be closer to her family. She was very attracted to the Melbourne Beach area and therefore chose to live in Brevard County. After her move, Dr. Abrahao decided to become an internist and then later on decided to become a hospitalist physician.
