Senior Behavioral Wellness Services
Become Available at Health First's Palm Bay Hospital
ROCKLEDGE, FL (April 19, 2016) – Health First is pleased to announce new Senior Behavioral Wellness services will be available at Health First's Palm Bay Hospital this summer. Services include an 18-bed program specializing in older adults requiring inpatient psychiatric stabilization. The only one of its kind in Brevard County, the program will offer supportive care in a structured environment under the direction and supervision of a psychiatrist who will evaluate each patient and provide medication recommendations to manage symptoms.
"We try to assure patients and their families that we have great empathy for what they are struggling with, yet we want to try and help them improve the quality of their lives," says Dr. Kelly Dunn, Medical Director of Senior Behavioral Wellness. "We want them to feel better and be as independent and healthy as possible. That requires a team approach. Our goal is to work with them as effectively as possible to get them as well as possible."
Services will be offered by a multi-disciplinary treatment team comprised of nurses, therapists and appropriate healthcare professionals to meet the needs of each patient.
- The Senior Behavioral Wellness program will offer services on a voluntary basis; individuals seeking admission must be able to make informed decisions about their treatment.
- Patients can expect to participate in group therapy, and individual and family counseling, as well as other essential activities to stabilize symptoms, increase an overall sense of well-being and improve their quality of life.
- The average length of stay is approximately 12 to 14 days and may vary according to the individual needs of the patient.
Many older adults experience unique emotional stresses that can often be helped through specialized care such as what the Senior Behavioral Wellness services will offer.
